Welcome.

Howdy and welcome!

Judd Thrash, Coach
Judd Thrash, Coach

I’m Judd Thrash, a proud Texas high school football coach and athletic director. Whether you’re a fellow coach, parent, student-athlete, or just someone who loves the game, I’m grateful you stopped by.

This blog is a space I’ve created to share my thoughts on football, coaching, leadership, and the values I believe sports can instill in young people. From time to time, I’ll be writing about my philosophy, memorable moments, lessons learned on and off the field, and the role athletics plays in shaping character and community.

I’ll also use this space to share updates on what I’m working on—whether that’s team accomplishments, special projects, or new developments in the direction of my career. Think of this as a place where I can stay connected with you all and shine a light on the great things happening in high school sports.

  1. When I think about Coach Judd Thrash, I don’t just think about a football coach—I think about a man who believed in something bigger than just wins and losses. He believed in building character, creating culture, and bringing the best out of each of us—whether we wore the jersey or not.

Coach Thrash had a way of walking into a room and immediately setting the tone. He’s the type of coach who made you feel like your presence mattered. Whether it was practice, film study, or just passing by in the hallway, he was intentional. That’s rare these days.

He came to Monterey and changed the energy. People started believing again—players, parents, the whole community. He wasn’t just coaching football; he was helping build young men. He didn’t just teach X’s and O’s; he taught us how to stand on business, how to be accountable, and how to walk with purpose.

You can’t overlook what he accomplished before Monterey either. He helped Duncanville become one of the most feared defenses in Texas—multiple state title runs, deep playoff pushes, coaching guys that made it to college and even the NFL. His résumé speaks volumes, but to me, what matters most is how he carried himself and how he poured into his players.

Now look, I’m not blind to what happened recently. He made a mistake—got caught up in a situation that took him out of that position. But I also know that doesn’t erase the years he gave to this game, the communities he touched, or the impact he had on me and so many others. People fall short. What matters is how they respond, and I truly believe Coach Thrash is the type to take responsibility and grow from it.

At the end of the day, Coach Thrash left a mark. He brought back pride to a program. He built relationships that still stand. And even though he’s not on the sidelines right now, his influence lives on in the way we work, how we carry ourselves, and how we lead.

He wasn’t just our coach—he was our example
